Neural Therapy – An Effective Treatment for Pain
Once called the “phenomenon of seconds” by German surgeon Ferdinand Huneke who pioneered the alternative health therapy in the first half of the 20th century, neural therapy is a treatment for pain and illness that relieves chronic conditions, often immediately.
Its administration often seems odd at first to those not familiar with the human body’s electrophysiology and the disturbances to it that accident, injury, surgery, etc. frequently cause. These disturbances, also known as interference fields, are symptoms of damaged cells’ inability to maintain normal electrical current conductivity. Current typically flows from areas of high to low areas of conductivity and it appears that injuries to various cell tissues result in the autonomic nervous system being altered in its ability to conduct the body’s energy.
Neural therapy is frequently employed by practitioners of alternative medicine to bring relief to conditions such as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofacial Pain when nothing else seems to work. Typically a practitioner will inject a local anesthetic into the area of old injury which will bring relief, usually instantly, to an area elsewhere in the body that was experiencing pain as a result of the old injury.
To determine the area of old injury, an extensive medical history is usually taken and potential areas of old injury will be touched while the patient’s muscle strength is tested elsewhere. The interference field is augmented temporarily when touched which results in a small but perceptible weakening of muscles elsewhere in the body as the energy flow alters. In this way, the area of altered energy flow can be located.
The practitioner then injects the area of old injury (which can be a scar, trigger point, internal organ, old wisdom tooth extraction scar, etc.) with a liquid anesthetic such as lidocane. The injection causes the pain to diminish at another point in the body.
Sometimes the pain relief is lasting, but more often than not, it will only last for a matter of days or even hours. However, the fact that the body responded to the injection is proof of the treatment’s efficacy, and typically each repeated treatment lasts longer until at least the condition is permanently remediated.
